PancakeSwap is a decentralized exchange (DEX) protocol for swapping BEP-20 tokens on Binance Smart Chain (BSC). PancakeSwap platform can be accessed via a Web3 wallet such as TrustWallet, WalletConnect, or MetaMask and this platform is designed to allow users to securely trade Binance Coin (BNB) and a massive variety of BEP-20 tokens without relying on centralized services or losing control over their private keys. CAKE is the native utility token of PancakeSwap which acts as its governance token. PancakeSwap DEX has an Automated Market Maker (AMM) which facilitates token exchanges, yield farming, and staking.
The PancakeSwap project initially received funding from the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) Accelerator project in 2020. Now, the PancakeSwap platform is funded by its Treasury and these funds are used for upkeep and maintenance of the platform. The minted CAKE tokens are placed in the PancakeSwap Treasury, which is used by the developers to run the platform. The PancakeSwap website and smart contract code are open for public scrutiny. PancakeSwap is an open-source platform which has been audited by several prominent blockchain security firms.
The PancakeSwap platform was created by a group of anonymous developers supported by Binance. The PancakeSwap platform has food-based visuals and naming conventions for all its products. The PancakeSwap team is known as “the Kitchen team”, which consists of more than 12 members including two co-leads and engineers; who call themselves “Chefs”.
