Neo is an open-source community driven blockchain platform for building decentralized applications. Neo enables developers to digitize and automate the management of assets through smart contracts. It also provides powerful native infrastructures such as decentralized storage, oracles, and domain name service, creating a solid foundation for the Next-Gen Internet. Neo network has two cryptocurrencies, NEO Coins and GAS Coins. Each of these coins serves a different but essential function in order to increase the stability of the network.

Neo was founded in 2014 by Da Hongfei and Erik Zhang - the founders of Onchain, Neo’s parent company. Onchain has also been an instrumental force behind other projects, including Ontology (ONT). Along with Onchain, the non-profit Neo Council is another driving force behind the platform’s development and adoption. Neo Council later became the Neo Foundation

Neo Global Development (NGD) is the main execution arm of the Neo Foundation and it is responsible for tasks such as business development, marketing, events management, and direct technical support to partner organizations. Neo has sponsored various self-governed communities around the world to help build out Neo’s developer tools and infrastructure.

Neo Core Developers are a highly skilled and dedicated team of subject matter experts responsible for advancing Neo’s core protocol. Anyone can contribute to the Neo codebase, however Core Developers have the permissions to review and merge pull requests. Developers who consistently provide high quality contributions to the Neo project may become eligible for an invite to the core group.
