Cosmos (ATOM) is the native token of Cosmos Hub. The Cosmos Hub is a proof-of-stake blockchain of the Cosmos Network. The Cosmos network is secured by the Byzantine Fault-Tolerant (BFT) proof-of-stake consensus algorithm, Tendermint. Developers of Tendermint, Jae Kwon and Ethan Buchman co-founded the Cosmos Network in 2015.

Jae Kwon - Co-Founder

Jae Kwon is a blockchain software architect and co-founder of Tendermint, the original core development team behind the Tendermint consensus protocol and the Cosmos Hub. He also serves as the President for the Interchain Foundation, the non-profit organization that helps fund development of the Cosmos Network. Jae Kwon is still listed as principal architect and he stepped down as CEO in May 2020. Jae Kwon has now been replaced as Tendermint’s CEO by Peng Zhong.

Ethan Buchman - Co-Founder

Ethan Buchman is the co-founder of Tendermint. He is the CEO of Informal Systems, an independent research and development team that works with the Interchain Foundation as a key contributor to the Cosmos ecosystem. He also serves as the Vice President for the Interchain Foundation. Prior to this, he co-founded and served as the CTO of Tendermint, the original core development team behind the Tendermint consensus protocol and the Cosmos Hub.

Peng Zhong - CEO

Peng Zhong is the Chief Executive Officer at Tendermint, a core contributor of the Cosmos ecosystem. Peng Zhong was the first employee at Tendermint, joining as Chief Design Officer in 2015 before becoming CEO in May 2020. He has since rebranded the company to Ignite in February 2022.
